Eating culture of North America
Food is a
very important topic in our life.
Lunch is
not really eaten properly but it is gone into fast food restaurants or
diners etc.
But how was
the food at times of North American Indian? And how did it develop?
Now I will
give a brief insight into the change in food culture in North America from
Indian times to today.
At times of
Indians they chased her food. The main food were meat of animals from the
forest and fish for example deer and seals. The meat was cooked, grilled,
smoked or eaten raw.
Also much
food was plants and berries because they were very easy to collect.
Because
there was no medication like today, crops and medicinal plants were also used
very often.
By the way
the Indians of North America were the first people who grow potatoes, tomatoes,
corn, beans and pumpkins. It can be concluded that these ingredients were also
very important staple foods. Also an important food was wild rice which they
also grew themselves.
So the
Indians mainly ate vegetables, plants and meat and have actually lived very
healthy and they produced of course no garbage. It looks quite different in
this day and age.
These days
the food is very varied and busy.
It starts
at the breakfast.
The
American breakfast is very hearty. It consists of eggs, ham, bacon, sausage,
cornflakes, juice and coffee or tea. Often there is even a dessert afterwards,
such as cake. The American bread is most soft as a sesame bun.
Also an
important part of American food are sandwiches.
You can buy
them packaged and chilled or freshly prepared. In supermarkets there are
usually huge counters with different types of sandwiches. But also on every
other corner you can buy some.
There is a
lot of choice of meat. It is more rind but less pig eaten. In addition a lot of
poultry is eaten. Turkey for example is usually eaten cold except for
thanksgiving.
Also
shellfish are very popular, vegetables are rather less eaten and there is
almost every meal a salad as an appetizer.
By the many
finished food and eating in fast food restaurants there is logically also much
more garbage than at times of the Indians who have grown everything themselves.
I hope you
enjoyed the short insight into the food culture of North America and you could
learn something!

Hey Jule,
ReplyDeleteI find the topic you are working on very interesting because the differences between then and now are very strong, which you have expressed very well.
Furthermore I like it that I can follow you very easily because of a clear sentence structure and so I can always understand exactly what you mean.
Additionally I like how you have divided the post. Namely that you first wrote about how it was earlier and then how it is in America today.
I would just liken to have statistics or something similar that shows the change in nutrition. In general I also miss a few examples.
All in all the blog post is very well written and clearly arranged but maybe next time you can include a few more examples.
I enjoyed it to read.
